Car Boot Sunday

Car boot sale this Sunday 3 September.  Come as a buyer or come as a seller but support Waterlooville!!

I went along to The Plaza Council offices last week where the  consultation forum regarding the former BAE site was held.  There was a presentation by the developers showing their hopes for the future of the site.  One of their assurances was that 39000sq ft had been assigned for leisure facilities.  They were actively 'casting their net' to get interest.  Many in the audience expressed their scepticism that the developers were searching hard enough.  If leisure is wanted and not more retail then the residents of Waterlooville will have to fight for it. Want to find out more about the meeting go to the Havant page Council meeting on BAE site development There was a promise that the next public consultation will be held in Waterlooville.  Watch for the dates.

Exciting films coming for the Autumn. Especially 'The time of their lives', some of which was filmed in Southsea.  Were you one of the film extras?? Support the Pop up cinema organised by Waterlooville Events team. Volunteers coming together for Waterlooville.

You will be pleased to learn that Hampshire County Council have approved our application to put festive lights in Waterlooville Precinct subject to approval by SSE and us confirming which trees will be having the Battery powered lights. Let us hope it all goes smoothly.  Fingers crossed!

Moving on to Christmas 2017 - It might be sunny outside but now is the time for me to apply for the license for us to hang the festive lights in Waterlooville Town centre.  Dealing with Hampshire County Council and Southern Electric is a challenge!  The assurance is that they have made it easier this year.  I am unsure that is true.  Filling in a form talking about 'windage', 'eccentricity', bracket heights, bracket lows, etc, etc.  Difficult to give answers when you do not understand the questions. Finding out if we need a structural competency survey.  The list continues.  Easy it is not.  Yesterday I almost threw the PC out of the window.  In the end I sent the form to a kind person at Havant Council, who admitted she did not understand the questions either.  Made me feel better!!  At the end of the day I am a mere volunteer trying to bring Christmas to Waterlooville.  Watch for the next stage of the licensing saga!!

Thursday 24 August is Family Cinema in St Georges Church Hall Waterlooville.  Don't know what to do with the kids?, then bring them along.  At the beginning of August was the BFG film.  That was really good (and I am not a kid!) disappointed you missed it? then come to this next one.  You don't have to bring a child(!) but if you do it is £3 for child, £5 for adult and £10 family ticket and there is a drink and treat included. To keep the cinema going people must support it as it has to be self funding so hope to see you there.

The sun shone and the families came to see the 80 stalls, arena events, animals, dog show, horse and carriage, etc etc.  What a fabulous day.  Being a volunteer with Waterlooville Events team it was an exhausting day but also had a sense of satisfaction that we had achieved it for another year.  The day started at 7am to put up our gazebo, then getting the toilets in place and then the stalls on the field.  It calmed until we had to get them off at the end of the day.  So home at 5pm for relaxation. 18 volunteers ran the day.  Many before hand - booking stalls;  organising arena;  doing the relevant paperwork with various authorities; finding the funding; etc etc. What we need are more volunteers.  Why don't you help.  Many hands make light work!!  Be an elf in the xmas grotto, or even be a santa!!  Why not help with the Xmas event??   or help us with the brand new event in May  Waterlooville Carnival in the town centre.   Or help with designing the publicity or just give us i
